Tucked away just 15 km from Durban’s new King Shaka International Airport and 40 km north of Durban city centre, you’ll discover the tranquillity of one of the north coast’s hidden treasures, Hazelmere Dam and Resort.
Park Description
- Msinsi Resorts and Game Reserve is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Umgeni Water formed by Dr Ian Player in 1992, under the auspices of the Wilderness Foundations. Msinsi began its operations at Shongweni Dam and Game Reserve and later expanded its operations to Albert Falls, Inanda, Nagle and Hazelmere Dams.
Forest lodge is situated across the dam and has its own entry point. To access this lodge, Ndwedwe Road must be used and the turn off to Golden Gate School must be taken. By road, the Lifestyle Lounge is 14km away from the main gate.
Bookings for camping, the lifestyle, lapa and events are made at the reception office on a computerized booking system called the Host.
Visitors are allowed to use motorized and non-motorized water worthy craft on the dam for recreational purposes. Motorized craft must be registered with SAMSA as proof of water worthiness. Boating, skiing , canoeing, jetskiing and fishing are permitted on the dam. Launching and fishing permits are available for sale at the gate and reception office.

When you feel you can’t tear yourself away from drinking in the tranquillity at Hazelmere, the easy solution is to choose from the resort’s selection of accommodation options.
Camping/caravanning
Choose between two camping areas at Hazelmere Dam and Resort, our top campsites or the riverside campsites along the mouth of the dam. These offer a total of 35 demarcated sites with electrical points. Each site accommodates up to six people. Ablutions with hot and cold-water showers are serviced daily. The Lapa at the top campsites can be booked for functions. It accommodates up to 30 people and has a wash-up area.
Food and entertainment
All accommodation is self-catering. Our sales kiosk can help you with last-minute purchases of beverages and snacks, as well as charcoal and wood.
