Water is at the heart of each and every one of the Msinsi Resorts and Game Reserves that we manage on behalf of our parent company, Umgeni Water, one of Africa’s most successful water-management organisations. And water is at the heart of Umgeni Water’s mission: “Water for growth and sustainable development.”

The water that Msinsi Resorts and Game Reserves and Umgeni Water join forces to safeguard is much more than simply scenically beautiful or somewhere to have fun. Water is a vital commodity for the survival of humanity.

In recent decades, especially, water has become a more and more scarce resource across the planet. This is a particular concern to South Africa, which is a semi-arid country. SA’s national rainfall is half the global average – even before climate change takes effect. And worse, less than 10% of our rainfall becomes runoff that ends up in our rivers. That’s the world’s lowest rate of rainfall to runoff conversion.

So we at Msinsi Resorts and Game Reserves also see a serious side to our work managing dams and the reserves around them for Umgeni Water.

These are critical green lungs for the people of KZN to enjoy as metropolitan growth continues from year to year. They can help guard and stabilise our environment in this era of climate change. They are also green refuges for our plants and butterflies, birds and animals, insects and reptiles, protecting them for our future and that of our children.

Msinsi Resorts and Game Reserves especially help protect a critical part of KZN’s water supply, working with our parent company Umgeni Water, a state entity established in 1974. Umgeni Water currently delivers 426 million cubic metres of drinking water to its six municipal customers a eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, Ilembe District Municipality, Sisonke District Municipality, Umgungundlovu District Municipality, Ugu District Municipality and Msunduzi Local Municipality.

As KZN’s largest supplier of bulk drinking water, Umgeni Water is of strategic importance to the province and the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry.
